Your support is IMPORTANT!

CLEARING is not just “a magazine for teachers.” It’s WAY more than that!

After many years of struggling to remain viable, CLEARING can look with pride at the steps we’ve taken recently to become a stronger and more sustainable organization that supports the teaching of environmental literacy in the Pacific Northwest.

In the past year, we reached over 10,000 teachers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia with unique teaching ideas, innovative strategies, and critical tools for the classroom. Through our responsive website and our printed Compendium, CLEARING has become an indispensable resource for teachers and educators throughout the region.

In the coming year, we hope to build on our momentum to expand our network further, and to play an even more visible role in promoting and supporting environmental literacy education.

We are partnering with organizations that promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; as well as with advocates of place-based education (PBE), outdoor education (specifically Outdoor School), and conservation education. By working with these organizations and individuals, CLEARING serves as a critical link to enhance the success of these independent strands of environmental literacy education.

Your donation helps us maintain our publications and communications efforts throughout the region. We’re a very small non-profit organization, but with your help, we will continue to provide teachers and students with the very best ideas, strategies, and resources for building environmental literacy.

Thank you!

saulweisberg“Since the beginning of time, or at least the Jurassic, CLEARING has provided a window into what’s possible in environmental education. It’s an invaluable tool for the practitioner –offering the imagination and pragmatic wisdom that we need to reach teachers and children and save the world

matsumotoI have been a faithful reader and follower of CLEARING for over ten years, and it is one of the best access points for teachers to share ideas and find out what others are doing in the field of environmental literacy and outdoor education. If you don’t already know about CLEARING, I highly recommend it as a resource!

SCI-patrick-willisClearing is truly the “go to” resource for community-based and environmental literacy education resources in the Pacific Northwest. I have been reading and sharing copies of Clearing for over 20 years. In all of my teacher workshops and place-based programming, Clearing is on the top of my recommended resource list.
